Kings County Distillery is New York City’s premier craft distillery and among the most acclaimed small distilleries in the United States. Focused exclusively on whiskeys, Kings County has made a name for its Bourbon, Peated Bourbon, Empire Rye and other creative whiskeys. Kings County only distills whiskey for its label and never sells whiskey from other sources.
Kings County Straight Bourbon uses 80% New York organic corn from the Finger Lakes and English Golden Promise barley for a high malt recipe that avoids the wheat or rye typically found in Kentucky bourbon. Double pot distilled for a more flavourful new make spirit it is then aged in a variety of new charred oak barrels for 3-6 years. Because it is younger than some mainstream bourbons, this is a precocious whiskey – surprisingly robust for its age.
Nose: Very grain-forward caramel and vanilla. A mixture of sweetness and astringency beckon a deeper dive.
Palate: Salted caramel, custard, vanilla. It’s a little tannic though and again, very grassy – perhaps due to its young age.
Finish: Light with some caramel and leaves a pleasantly sweet mouthfeel.
